in Bharatanatyam under Smt Saroja Vaidyanathan. She continues her training
with Shri A. Lakshman and Smt. Bragha Besell in Chennai. Priya is known
for her adherence to the classical style of Bharatanatyam and its traditional
repertoire. A recipient of two fellowships awarded by the Illinois Arts
Council in 1995 and 2001, Priya has performed at various dance festivals
in India and abroad. Priya has several solo as well as group productions
to her credit and she brings to the ANANYA stage her vision of traditional
group work in Bharatanatyam within the margam format. |
Concept Note |
Priya Venkataraman and her group will begin with a traditional Mallari
followed by a sloka in praise of the Lord of dance. "Nrityaharam"-
a specially composed site-specific piece, Nrityaharam brings out the architectonic
beauty of the dance form while playing with melody and rhythm. The grandeur
of Shiva's dance is explored in the Muthuswamy Dikshitar kriti "AAnanda
Natana Prakasham". And they bring the evening to an end with a fast
paced Tillana. |
