Kingdom Hum was born out of demise. The six members of Kingdom Hum are erstwhile members of three other bands. We sought new musical direction and decided to seek it together. Needless to mention, our old bands have… well… disbanded.

Our motivation for coming together answers your first question. Five of us were in rock bands that sang in English. One of us did traditional Bhutanese and Tibetan genres. All of us wanted to experiment. So we fused our musical impulses. That is not to say that we’ve discarded our roots. We still like to amp up the distortion and bang our heads senseless now and then. The new sound is a bit scratchy and underdeveloped, not quite what we envisioned initially. But that’s part of the process. We’re teething.

Don’t ask us who our inspirations are. That’s something we avoid talking about, for the simple reason that we’re all influenced by too many people. Heck, people wouldn’t be too far from the truth if they supposed we were influenced by Somali pirates, Mother Theresa, nocturnal animals and leafy vegetables.

We’re licking our lips as we look ahead to the South Asian Bands Festival, which we regard as an opportunity to see and learn from some of the best talents in the subcontinent. Nothing but good can come out of a congregation of such immense talent.

Also, we take to heart our role as cultural ambassadors. Ours is a small but beautiful country that we love dearly. We hope to offer a taste of it to the good people of Delhi, the capital of our closest friend and neighbor, India.
