Svasti
Vachan - Gandharva Mahavidyalaya students (Delhi)
Creative
and innovative, the Gandharva Choir has presented many
outstanding performances of Indian choral music in India
and abroad during the last three decades. The choir
is a unit of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, a prestigious
college of Indian music and dance in New Delhi. Pt.
Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya was its founder-conductor,
a task which his son Pt. Madhup Mudgal continues. The
choir specialises in rendering not only difficult forms
such as Dhrupad, Dhamar, Varnam, Kriti and Tarana but
is equally adept at patriotic, devotional and folk forms.
Its repertoire includes multi-lingual compositions,
such as songs in the Carnatic style, Rabindra Sangeet
from Bengal and modern experimental works as well as
ancient Vedic hymns.
