The
daughter of leading musicians Pandit Ajoy and Chandna
Chakrabarty, Kolkata-based Kaushiki Chakrabarty was
ten when she started learning Indian classical music
with Pt. Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Subsequently, she trained
with her father at his Shrutinandan music school. A
singer mature beyond her years, Kaushiki Chakrabarty
is gifted with a melodious voice. Conceptually strong
as well as spontaneous, she had attracted favourable
attention at the 27th annual ITC Sangeet Sammelan (New
Delhi, 1998) and in 2000, won an award for the outstanding
performer in the Dover Lane Naveen Pratibha series.
While her repertoire is largely north Indian, she has
studied Carnatic music as well. Integrating some aspects
of contemporary Indian pop music, it has considerably
widened her audience. Her clear, liquid voice has gained
her admiration in countries with large Indian communities
such as the United Kingdom.
