Krishnambika
Nambiar has trained in Vedic chanting for several years
with one of the most reputed institutes of yoga –
the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. TKV Desikachar founded
the Chennai-based institute in 1976 in the memory of
his father and teacher T Krishnamacharya. Apart from
offering several intensive courses in yoga and yoga
studies, the Yoga Mandiram also emphasises on Vedavani.
The Vedic sages ‘saw’ in their deep meditative
states the hymns that form part of the sacred literature
and used the verbal vehicle to transmit them. But the
incantation and its rigorous style remained with just
a few people. Krishnamacharya was one of the teachers
who initiated those who wanted to be the carriers of
this tradition. He explained Vedic Chanting to be a
universal tool for physical, emotional and spiritual
well-being. The institute formally incepted it in 1999.
Krisnambika Nambiar has given several lecture-demonstrations
in Vedic Chanting in India and abroad and says that
passing on this tradition serves the very important
purpose of ensuring that the mantra is recited in the
exact manner in which it was designed.
